Mike Pinto’s new EP, “The West is Still Wild,” is a summer cookout soundtrack that makes you want to hang out with friends. Just like the theme of the album, Pinto’s homage to the excitement of the Gold Rush still draws treasure hunters to California. Think of the EP in that respect where listeners are drawn to “The West is Still Wild.” The result is a treasure in itself.
The catchy rock and reggae mix extends on Pinto’s brand of music he left off with on 2009’s “Everything I Got.” Not only that, Pinto plays off the genre that Sublime and The Dirty Heads made popular. However, Pinto does it in a more lighthearted kind of way.
The first song, “Cool and the Deadly,” sets the mood with a nice, sway your body rhythm complemented by Pinto whistling. After hearing the first track, you’ll definitely be in the mood for grilling out and cold beverages.
What I like about Pinto’s sound is he takes a proven formula in rock /reggae and puts his own spin and signature on it. “The West is Still Wild” is a treasure fans don’t have to travel west for. In fact, they can find it everywhere; the album is now available.
