Make 2012 a Year of Celebrating You

It seems it was just in the recent past that we were gearing up for the year 2000. Don’t you remember all the hullabaloo that surrounded it? And now it’s 2012. Can someone tell me where the time went or is it indeed true that time stands still for no one? Life marches along.

I’ve never thought much about making New Year’s resolutions. I am too spontaneous a person to do something that forces me to stress out if I don’t achieve that particular resolution. I do, however, try to set realistic goals that will make me a well-rounded person. Perhaps the following ideas might prompt you to do something fresh and new going into 2012.

When I need an escape from the hustle and bustle of life, I get lost in a good book. It gives me those “Calgon” moments of rest and relaxation. Reading will also introduce you to places in words that you may never have the opportunity to visit in person. Your local library has a variety of reading material that can be borrowed for several weeks at a time for free. Check them out on a frequent basis for that latest bestseller.

Get a New Hairstyle

Do you want a different look? Perhaps a sassy new hairstyle/cut can fit the bill here while making you feel like a million bucks. Ever since sporting a new “do,” I wonder why it took me so long to take the plunge. It’s a decision that has been a good one for me because I am able to better manage my hair.

Learn a New Skill Just for the Fun of it

Local colleges, high schools and community centers often offer continuing education courses that are a few weeks long. Most meet at least once a week in the evening. The advantage of these classes is that you are not graded for them and they are economically priced. Do you have a hobby you would like to share with others in the community while getting a little compensation for it? This might be something that you would enjoy while getting fulfillment of sharing your knowledge with others. I am of the persuasion that you are never too young or too old to learn something new.

Add a Little Culture to Your Life

When was the last time you went to an art museum, an opera, a play or enjoyed a ballet performance? Challenge yourself to do something different and out of the ordinary. You are sure to have a good time. Perhaps you can even enjoy a culinary delight before or afterwards while reflecting on your experience.

Be More Conscientious of What You Eat and Exercise for Better Health

Eating right and exercising on a regular basis will make you feel better about yourself and possibly ward off some potential health hazards. As a person who enjoys good food I try to use portion control when dining. I also know the positive results that can be derived from movement through various methods of exercise. No, you don’t have to take out a gym membership but whatever mode you choose should be done on a consistent basis.

Conclusion

These are just a few suggestions of what you can do to jumpstart the New Year. Life is for living. Live it up and enjoy!!!!
