Lulu Hearts Rockstar

Lulu ran down the treat aisle and grabbed the largest bone she could find. She brought it back to Mommy, and put it in the basket. Mommy was surprised. “You’ve never wanted such a big bone before, Lulu! What’s gotten into you?”

Lulu wagged her tail so hard, it made her bottom wiggle, so she could barely walk. “Can I have a bone too, Mommy?” All Mommy could hear was, “Ruff ruff!”

“Shh, you can’t make such a ruckus in here,” Mommy whispered. “Remember what I told you about using your inside voice in public places.”

Lulu hung her head. She was a little bit sad that she wouldn’t be getting her own bone, but she understood. She knew Mommy couldn’t understand her language.

As soon as Mommy and Lulu got home, Lulu ran up to the phone and pulled it off the receiver. “We have to call the beauty parlor, Mommy! I want to visit Rockstar for Valentine’s Day. I heart him so very much!” All Mommy could hear was, “Ruff ruff ruff!”

Mommy grunted, and put the phone back on the receiver. “Lulu, why are you misbehaving? I got you that nice big bone. Why don’t you go gnaw on that for awhile, sweetie?”

Lulu had to figure out a way to make Mommy understand. She didn’t want to miss out on having Valentine’s Day with her best friend in the whole world. She sat and thought for awhile, as Mommy put away the groceries.

Suddenly, Lulu had an idea. She went over to the desk and pulled down Mommy’s phone book. She rifled through the pages with her nose, until she found “Doggy Parlor.” “Mommy, mommy! Look, I found it! This is where I want to go tomorrow!” All Mommy could hear was, “Ruff ruff ruff ruff!”

“What? What are you doing Lulu?” Mommy inquired, scratching her head.

Lulu ran and grabbed her bone, and dropped it on the phone book. Then she ran and pulled the phone off the receiver, and dropped that on top of the bone. “I want to visit the beauty parlor so I can ask Rockstar to be my Valentine, Mommy!”

Mommy shook her head in amazement. “You always surprise me, Lulu. You’re the smartest little girl I know. OK, I’ll call the beauty parlor.”

Lulu ran around and around, jumping, wagging, and wiggling. “Thank you so much Mommy! You’re the best! I love you I love you I love you!!!” She jumped up and gave Mommy lots of kisses, until they both fell over, laughing.

The next day, Mommy took Lulu to the beauty parlor. Lulu ran in with the big bone in her mouth, and ran right up to Rockstar, dropping the bone at his feet. “Will you be my Valentine, Rockstar?”

Rockstar jumped up and gave Lulu greeting kisses. “Of course! I already got seven other requests, but I declined all of them, because you’re my favorite. I was waiting for you.” Rockstar picked up the bone and slammed it on the ground, breaking it in two. “Thank you for the bone, but I’d rather share it with you.”

Lulu wagged and wiggled, and cuddled up next to Rockstar. They sat and enjoyed their lunch, conversing about chasing Frisbees and catching balls. Lulu told him all about the squirrel hiding under Daddy’s shed, and the bunny she chased off the property.

When they finished their meal, Lulu nuzzled her nose under Rockstar’s chin. “I heart you, Rockstar. You’re my best friend ever!”

“I heart you too, Lulu. You’re the only girl who brings me treats, and doesn’t hog it all for herself. I like your funny stories too.”

Lulu and Rockstar enjoyed the rest of the afternoon playing catch, and chasing each other around the beauty parlor.
