Kim Kardashian wants her fans to know the whole truth about her recent trip to Haiti. The twice-married starlet recently took a trip to the disaster-ravaged Caribbean country as a part of a celebrity charity trip. Kim was accompanied by her momager Kris Jenner. The two met with actress Maria Bello regarding her charity “We Advance” as an act of giving back to the less fortunate.
The Ugly Rumor
The National Enquirer wasn’t feeling KK’s charitable vibe, however, The tab slammed the megastar, accusing Kim of going to a fashion show and spending a “fortune” to pamper herself during her 48-hour stay in Haiti. The story headline claims that “Haiti Hates Phony Kim K!” The story goes on to say that Kim and Kris shacked up in a hotel costing $1,000 a night and that they bused in the poor, starving kids for the photo ops.
The Scoop
For her part, Lady Kardashian is furious. As viewers turned in to watch little sister Kendall Jenner’s “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” Sweet 16 E! Network special, Kim was preparing her rebuttal on her blog. Kimmie breaks it all down in a new post entitled, “My Trip To Haiti: In My Own Words.” She strikes out, saying that she is disappointed in the media.
Kim’s Side of the Story
Calling the story “malicious” and “untrue” Kim explains, ” While my experience was completely life-changing… a very emotional and surprisingly positive journey that I will never forget, some media outlets have tried to tarnish the motive behind my visit and have written completely ridiculous and untrue things.” Instead of pampering herself the Head Doll In Charge says that she attended “the Haitian Artisan Fair, where the amazing men and women who make their jewelry and crafts sell them to visitors to make a living, and [she] bought some of their beautiful jewelry after the fashion show!” In other words, any items that she purchased were created by local artisans and any purchase of those items helps to rebuild the country.
The Real Deal
Kim has come under criticism for not giving back in the past. Earlier this year, the starlet participated in the now-cancelled CW show “H8R” where a young woman accused her of not doing anything to help the less fortunate. She explained on the program that she had been to Africa more than once. Kendall’s birthday special showed the model sister accompanying Khloe to visit sick children at the LA Children’s Hospital.
Love them or hate them, it seems that the Kardashian family makes a point to be involved in charitable efforts — and they really, really want you to know that. KK’s blog goes on to insist, “I have become accustomed to dealing with rumors and lies spread about my family or my relationships, and have learned to ignore it to a certain extent. But when a magazine makes the decision to twist the truth and write lies like that, it belittles the entire experience we had in Haiti, and I won’t let them do that.”
So what do you think? Does the media owe Kimmie an apology? Or is it all par from the course. Is the charity work from her heart or just another celebrity publicity stunt? Either way, she was hopefully able to provide some much needed aid to Haitian people at a difficult time. Good for her.
