How We Can Have Happiness in Our Family Life

Everyone wants to be happy. People strive to find happiness in many different ways. I think that the Bible holds the key to finding genuine happiness. For me personally there are motivating scriptures. Scriptures that help me in my family life and to raise my child.

One scripture that I like for my marriage is Colossians 3:13a: “Continue putting up with one another and forgiving one another freely.” This has reminded me that we all are imperfect and should forgive one another. Especially when it comes to our family. Our spouse and children will make mistakes just like we do.

Another motivational scripture that has helped me with my marriage is Philippians 2:4 which admonishes us to be “keeping an eye, not in personal interest upon just their own matters, but also in personal interest upon those of the others.” This has really helped me to see the need to take a genuine interest in things that are important to my husband.

The Bible has aided me in raising my child. Child rearing is very difficult in this day and age. Proverbs 22:6 says: “Train up a boy according to the way for him; even when he grows old he will not turn aside from it.” As a parent I have appreciated this counsel. This has given me the confidence that I need in order to raise my child with Bible principles.

I think it is important that as a wife I keep busy taking care of my family. There are so many distractions and mundane things that we can pursue. A scripture that guides me in this regard is Titus 2:4,5. I absolutely love these verses. It says: “that they may recall the young women to their senses to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sound in mind, chaste, workers at home, good, subjecting themselves to their own husbands, so that the word of God may not be spoken of abusively.”

To be happy with one’s family and one’s life is a great thing. It does require time and effort. The Bible at Acts 20:35 tells us that “there is more happiness in giving than there is in receiving.” That gives us the encouragement to give our utmost to our family.
