Longing to spice up your nail polish looks, but feel like nail art is too difficult to try? Well, you’re wrong. Okay, so your nail skills aren’t advanced enough to put zippers on your nails, but you can still get a nail art look. Try ombre nails, like the look featured on Refinery29. Use two colors of polish to create a faded look. It’s easier than it sounds.
Step 1:
Paint one color around the bottom and halfway up the sides of each nail. I applied the polish in a rough U-shape, but if it’s not perfect, don’t worry. You’re going to smudge it, anyway.
Step 2:
Paint the rest of your nail with the other color. Use lots of polish so you have enough to smear. I actually had to apply more of the first color to help the process along.
Step 3:
Using your polish brush or a cotton swab, swirl the two colors together where they meet. Again, you’re not going for precision. You just want the two colors to blend together.
Step 4:
Apply a clear top coat to seal the deal. The shine of the top coat emphasizes the faded look. You could even use glitter as a top coat for more shimmer!
