How to Make Homemade Wrapping Paper

If you do not have gift wrap, it isn’t the optimal solution, but you can make gift wrap using the free graphics program, Inkscape, and paper from your printer. Here is how you make this gift wrap.

Download and Install Inkscape

First download Inkscape. You can download the program, Inksacpe, from the developer’s website. Follow all of your computer’s prompts for downloading and installing a program.

Open the Program

Once the program is installed, o open the program. You are now ready to start making your gift wrap.

Set Document Properties

Go to file, then to document properties. A window will appear. Set the paper size by clicking on the paper size that you have in your printer. Close the dialogue box by clicking on the x in the top right corner.

Draw or Import a Graphic

You can draw a graphic or import one by going to to file and then going to Import and selecting a graphic or picture from your computer to import to the document. Click on the arrow in the tools located on the left and then move your picture to the top left of the document by dragging it there. Leave the graphic selected (that means leave it so there is a border of arrows around the picture)/

Clone the Image

Go to edit and down to clone. From the menu that pops up to the right, select “Create Tile Clones.” A dialogue box will pop up on the screen. At the bottom, there is dialogue asking for how many rows and columns of the image that you have. Decide on how many you want and put this into the dialogue. Now hit the button that says “Create.” Your image should clone on the page. Close the dialogue box by clicking on the x in the upper right corner of the dialogue box.

Change Details

Change the details that you want to change. You can select each graphic on the page by clicking on it when the arrow tool is selected. You can change the color just by clicking on a color that is located at the bottom of the screen. You can also re-size the images by clicking on each one and dragging the arrows as long as they are pointing outwards. Clicking again allows you to rotate the images and the arrows will be bent around the graphic.

Play with Details

If you have the time, play with different settings in Ink-scape and you will be able to make your wrapping paper extremely special and unique as it will be the only wrapping paper like it that exists.

Print Your Wrapping Paper

Print your wrapping paper by going to file and then to print. When the dialogue box appears, set it for what you need to print and then his the button that says “Print.”
