How to Create and Activate a Netspend Account

NetSpend Corporation stands out as the most well-known prepaid debit card issuer in the country. NetSpend Prepaid MasterCard and Visa cards are available at supermarkets, convenience stores and check-cashing centers nationwide. Pre-paid debit cards are the same as check cards or debit cards issued from banks and are used to make purchases, withdraw cash from an ATM, make hotel/motel/ reservations and car rentals. The cards are accepted anywhere the “Visa” logo is displayed. There are no consumer credit checks and no turn-downs; everyone is accepted regardless of current credit rating. Purchase a Card

Obtain a NetSpend pre-paid Visa or Mastercard from your supermarket or check cashing center. Some pharmacies such as Walgreens and CVS also carry the Netspend cards. Cards can also be obtaned from the NetSpend website on the “Buy/Reload” web page or find locations in your area. The price of the card is $9.95 at retailers, but it is free from the NetSpend website. When purchasing the card from a store, the cashier loads the amount you want deposited on the card and includes a small processing fee of $3. When ordering from the website , the card can be loaded by purchasing a reload pack or funds transfer from a bank or PayPal account.

Open an Account

Register with NetSpend at the company website. Click on “Registration/Activation,” input your 16-digit card number, and the three-digit “CVV” number on the back of the card. Click on “Continue,” you will need to provide contact information, Social Security number and date of birth. Select a user name and password and click on “Register.” Login to your account with the chosen user name and password.

Activate the Card

To activate the card, call the number on the back of the card or visit the Netspend website and access your account. Choose a Personal Identification Number, and start using the card right away. Netspend cards are perfect for direct deposits, online payments, money transfers and much more.

Load Money onto the Card

Direct Deposit:

Paychecks and recurring payments can be direct deposited to your NetSpend account by giving your employer a copy of the printed form available on the website. Fill in the account number and routing number and give it to your employer. It takes approximately three to four pay periods to begin receiving funds directly to your account.

Reload with PayPal:

Log in to your PayPal account and select the “Profile” tab. Click on “Add Bank.” Select the “Checking” option. Enter the routing number and account number for your NetSpend account and “Continue.”

Reload Packs:

Reload packs are temporary cards used to top up funds to the Netspend Cards. These reloadable cards are purchased from the same locations as the debit cards. Load funds at the register then transfer the money to your account.

Available balance information can be accessed 24 hours a day from the website or by dialing the customer service number on the back of the card.

Tips
Prepaid debit cards are just like any other debit or credit cards. Identity theft is rising so be sure to keep all account information in a safe place and never reveal your PIN number to anyone including family members. When withdrawing money from an ATM, be sure to take any receipts from the machine and do not use pin number in the presence of others. Many people discard the receipts from ATMs giving thieves the opportunity to access their information.
