How Can I Save on My Energy Bill?

With the way the economy is these days, people are constantly looking for ways to save money and the energy bill is one of those ways. If you are not careful, you can have a light bill through the roof. Those types of light bills can do damage especially if you are on a limited budget. In this article, I will offer some ways on how you can save on your energy bill. There are more ways than the ones listed in this article, but these are the most effective ways to save on your light bill.

Turn Off Computers, TVs & Lights

At night when you go to bed, turn off the lights, TVs and Computers. Though they don’t burn too much current, all of them together, over a months’ time will add up. So turn them off when you go to bed. If you are not at home all day, make sure they are turned off then too. If you have to have some light in the home at night, buy some night lights because they burn less current. You could buy a couple to place in different areas of the house and that will help give off some light without using your other lights.

Turn Off the Hot Water Heater

Another thing you can do is turn off the hot water heater in your home. You will more than likely only need the hot water at night when you get a bath or shower. So, 30 minutes before you get ready to bathe, you can turn the hot water heater on. We save between $40 and $50 a month just by turning the hot water heater off and only turning it on when we get a bath. We throw the breaker to our hot water heater.

Hang Out Your Clothes

Another way to save on your energy bill is by hanging out your clothes to dry instead of drying them in the dryer. Running your dryer will really run your light bill up. You can will save about $40 a month by hanging out clothes and not running the dryer.

Watch the Thermostat

You need to set the heating and air thermostat on about 75 or 78. Putting your thermostat on 75 or 78 will really save you money on your energy bill. Some people put their air conditioner on 68 and that will surely run your light bill up.

Take Shorter Showers

Taking shorter showers will also save on your energy bill. I know some people like to get in the shower and let the hot water run on them until the hot water runs out, but that is also running your light bill up. So jump in there, wash and get out to save on your light bill.

So these are just a few things that you can do to save on your energy bill. It may not seem like a lot, but I promise you it will add up over a months’ time and you will see a big difference in your bill.
