House for Sale – a Story

A house for sale – the sign is up,
I wonder how many will show up,
At the open house today,
I know the owner went astray.

His wife was very nice I thought,
But he was untrue and now he’s wrought,
A house they have to sell and see,
To cut in half the equity.

She left him once a long time before,
I saw her going out the door.
He did promise that he’d be true,
He did not and now she’s blue.

The house is now so deep and still,
No children running outside on the hill.
It sits alone and waits some more,
For someone who this house will adore.
