Da Capo’s: Avon, CT.
Nestled among numerous chain stores and restaurants along Route 44, Da Capo’s is a hidden gem offering exceptional Italian food in a cozy atmosphere. The restaurant’s popularity stems from its family style portions (great for a double date!), which are big enough to feed the entire table and yet still be cost-efficient. Try the lasagna, which is as rich and flavor-filled as any from Italy. Additionally, the wine selection is also substantial, but affordable for you and your date. Per person, $30 to $40 should cover your tab, with the amount being on the lower end if you decide to double date and go family style.
J Timothy’s Taverne: Plainville, CT
If you’re in for a lively crowd and a little music this Valentine’s Day, then J Timothy’s is the place for you. The restaurant is known for its local artists, and the regulars in the bar area are as friendly as you’ll ever meet. Expect to have a good time without breaking the bank, as you and your date will be able to enjoy yourselves on less than $60.
J Timothy’s specializes in burgers, sandwiches and especially chicken wings. While wings might be a little messy for a date night, J Timothy’s “dirty” version of the American classic are among the best in the state, and a must have. Another plus is the dozen or so beers on tap, which can all be mixed and matched to suit your tastes. Go classy with a black and tan, there’s nothing better.
La Trattoria: Canton, CT
Hidden from view on its own street along the Canton-Simsbury border, La Trattoria has been a local favorite for many generations. Known primarily for its elegant and traditional interior decoration, as well as its friendly waitstaff, La Trattoria is the perfect locale for those couples looking to keep Valentine’s Day formal. The restaurant’s Italian and contemporary American dishes are both hearty and satisfying. The salmon entrée is a highly recommended choice; you won’t find a filet more tender or savory in the area. Expect to spend between $60 and $100 between you and your date, depending on how much you splurge on drinks. Reservations are preferred, as is semi-formal attire.
