Easy Ways to Support a Countertop Bar

A countertop bar provides a comfortable place for people to dine, enjoy snacks, sip drinks and visit with family and friends, but if it is not properly supported it can become a major concern. When people lean on a counter that is not sufficiently anchored and supported, it can pull away from the wall and result in extensive damage. Use one of the easy ways to support your countertop bar. It will be able to support the weight of people leaning on it, heavy dishes, plates and more.

I was told by a builder that if an overhang extends more than six inches from the cabinetry, it must include reinforcements that can absorb pressure and added weight. It does not have to be designed by a construction professional or a cabinet builder. Solutions can be budget friendly and very easy to add. I have a countertop with a twenty-six inch overhang, and it is supported with something that looks like a decorative part of the cabinetry. However, it was surprisingly cheap and easy to install.

Use a Decorative Wooden Dowel Rod to Support a Countertop Bar

A decorative wooden dowel rod can be used to support a countertop bar. The one in my rented home is plain, but the wood can be painted or stained to match virtually any color, and it can be cut to any height. It must be long enough to securely fit under the countertop and provide support, but it should not be too long. A dowel rod or another type of support pole can cause damage from beneath if too much pressure is applied.

Support a Countertop Bar with a Spring Loaded Shower Curtain Rod

A spring loaded shower curtain rod can also be used to support a countertop bar. They come in countless colors, and the tips are covered with non slip rubber caps. Best of all, trimming is never required. An adjustable shower curtain rod can be twisted until it is the perfect length to securely and safely support a countertop bar. If you cannot find the ideal color, cover the rod with peel and stick paper, vinyl or spray paint. No one will realize that it was designed to hold a shower curtain, and it will look like an original part of the design scheme.
