The one in my rented home is plain, but the wood can be painted or stained to match virtually any color, and it can be cut to any height. It must be long enough to securely fit under the countertop and provide support, but it should not be too long. A dowel rod or another type of support pole can cause damage from beneath if too much pressure is applied.

A spring loaded shower curtain rod can also be used to support a countertop bar. They come in countless colors, and the tips are covered with non slip rubber caps. Best of all, trimming is never required. An adjustable shower curtain rod can be twisted until it is the perfect length to securely and safely support a countertop bar. If you cannot find the ideal color, cover the rod with peel and stick paper, vinyl or spray paint. No one will realize that it was designed to hold a shower curtain, and it will look like an original part of the design scheme.
