Deck the Halls

Daddy says “Hurry! It’s time to go.”
We hop in the car and Onward Ho!
My Momma holds a seasonal treat.
Little Brother is holding gifts in the back seat.
I feel the excitement as we head to see family.

We walk in the door and have Season’s Greetings.
Someone leads in prayer and we start eating.
Laughter calls from every room.
It’s like Love’s fresh new bloom.
A New Year is on it’s way.
But for a moment, I wish this one would stay.

Pigs in a Blanket, Special punch
This is the reason I skipped lunch.
Sweet smiles and complete innocence.
Nothing beats familiar fragrance.
I see something that is easily forgotten.
The friendships that were once begotten.

Forget the gifts, this can’t be beat.
I take a place next to Grandma’s seat.
The smell of popcorn rises from the tree.
I spot ornaments, some made by me.

As we approach Christmas, do not forget.
Where we came from and where our heart sits.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
I hope you are blessed with Christmas Cheer.
