Creative Ways to Decorate an Office with Industrial Style

An industrial style office does not have to look like the backroom of an auto repair shop or a manufacturing plant. On the contrary, it can look rustic and incredibly stylish. Although furnishings have a minimalist appearance, the office can have a comfortable and inviting look and feel. It also does not have to be void of color. With aged works of colorful repurposed art and revolutionary furnishings, it can look fantastic.

I helped a woman design an industrial style office in her traditional home, and the results were extraordinary. With my help she selected eye-catching wall art, freestanding shelving, rustic filing cabinets, visually interesting lighting and more. We gave the walls a splash of muted color, and it was perfect with her wall art of choice. Discover unique ways to decorate an industrial style office, and give your workspace an amazing makeover.

Decorate with Subdued Colors

An industrial style office does not require rough block walls to fit the brick and metal theme. However, white walls are too clean in appearance to properly match the style. Opt for a muted wall color such as maize or steel blue. Select a hue that appears aged rather than something crisp and clean. It will look terrific, and it will become the backdrop for engineered office decor, furnishings and more.

Sturdy Furnishings with Industrial Style

One of the benefits of industrial style furnishings is cost. A simple steel gray erector style computer desk can be found for less than $200. Look for simple metal office furnishings with basic industrial style. In addition, consider a freestanding metal shelf unit. It can be used to hold everything from office books to tabletop decor. Add metal baskets to hold small items. The basketry will add style while serving a valuable purpose.

Decorate with Stylish and Practical Industrial Decor

Add personality, color and style to an office with industrial style by adding interesting wall decor. I found an old metal product sign for the wall of my client’s home office. The paint was chipped away, and the metal was slightly oxidized, but it fit the style of the office beautifully. It added splashes of deep blue, red and mustard to the space. In addition to color, it added character to the room. I also found a shop clock with big block numbers, a black and white framed photo of a nearby industrial building and a work of muted abstract wall art. They were ideal, and I found a space for each piece on the wall to the right of the desk.

Industrial Style Office Lighting

Task lighting is of the utmost importance when striving to decorate an office of any style. In keeping with the engineered appearance of a space with industrial style, select a simple metal desk lamp with a flexible ribbed neck. Use the desk lamp for office tasks requiring an adjustable source of light. Select high efficiency overhead LED lighting with industrial style in addition to the desk lamp. It will beautifully illuminate the office space while coordinating with the theme of the room.
