Cleveland Ohio, the Airport Plaza Hotel

This is a huge hotel with many rooms to spare. Some of the amenities include an airport pick up service, outdoor and indoor pools, a Jacuzzi (as well as a private Jacuzzi in some of the larger rooms), a sauna, a game room and a restaurant right next door. Also, what’s rather nice is the very tranquil sound of trickling water coming from the fish tanks as you walk into the lobby. To top it off the Plaza offers coupons in the Roomsaver magazine starting at just $40 a night. Sounds great right?

Well, I don’t mean to be hard on them but $40 a night fits like a glove; it should be the normal hotel rate not the coupon rate. This hotel has lots of potential but unfortunately it’s not living up to what it could be. There are many things that I could touch on, but I believe cleanliness is the most important. When you walk your room it smells like you’ve walked into a fog of “funk” and you may or may not get used to that smell. You definitely want to check for bed bugs, you may not find any but you’ll find a filthy mattress with sheets that look as if they’ve simply been dusted off and placed back on the mattress. You’ll also find unnecessarily dirty lamp shades, questionable bed covers and every other spot on the carpet is an iron burn. What’s even better is that I swear the walls are covered in boogers.

The second most important thing is security. Security at this hotel is definitely an issue seeing as anyone can walk in and out of the hotel; no key necessary. Keep in mind that this is a large hotel with many doors leading to the outside and yet you don’t need a key to get into any of the doors. Also, let’s just say that a lot of the customers are not what I would call upstanding citizens; unless prostitutes, drug addicts, and drug dealers count. Just in case you don’t already know, this is probably not the best place for children.

All I can say is that I lasted 3 hours in this hotel and laid in the middle of the bed unwilling to get under the covers or lay my head on the pillows before I left to find another hotel. To the owners of the Plaza, you are losing a lot of business, all of the rooms in this hotel could be filled at once, if priorities were to be placed on cleanliness and making the hotel safe. Is it the worst hotel in the area? No, but it is because of it’s forseen potential in comparison to it’s current condition that has left me so disappointed.
