I know it’s a man cave you’re setting up but take a few tips from a woman. You can get all the main things in place, like the bar, some furniture, a stereo, and pictures of sexy women standing beside beaming Harleys. But it’s the small touches that finish off the place. You’ll have to stay organized and that can start by making coasters. You don’t want all the guys putting their dripping beers on man cave surfaces, and having to scrub all of those rings off when they leave. Throw a few man made coasters around and you’ll prevent all of that hassle. It’s really easy to make beer can coasters; they’ll fit right in with the look of the room.
Use a sharp knife or scissors to pierce a hole in the can, near the top. Use scissors, though, to cut the top off. Do the same with the opposite end to remove the bottom of the can. Then, cut up one side of the can to open up the cylinder.
Now, don’t get scared. Get out the iron – yes, I said it – and iron the aluminum can. When you do, it will stop curling and lie flat. Just fold a towel several times and lay the inside of the can on it. Use a hot iron and, as you iron the can, lift one end of the towel, again and again. Turn the can 180 degrees, and do the same to that end. When the metal is flat you’re ready to turn it into a cool coaster.
Cut a 5″x5″ piece of the beer can to make each coaster. A square cut from the front of the can is especially cool. When you use ordinary tape you can create smooth edges while giving the coaster a finished look. Choose metallic tape, or even electrical tape. Electrical tape, as you probably know, now comes in colors of blue, green, yellow, red, and white.
Cut a 5″ piece of the tape and lay half of the length on one edge of the coaster. Turn the other half to the backside to secure. Do the same thing to cover each of the four edges of the coaster.
Beer can coasters are cool for a man cave, or a man’s bedroom, but the aluminum coasters can also be made from soda cans, or even single-serve juice cans. That means you can make suitable coasters for a child’s room, the kitchen, or anywhere else in the house.
