Are You Setting Yourself Up for Failure?

Have you ever heard the saying “there is power in the tongue?” This age-old meaning is basically saying that whatever you say can influence what can happen. Some call this a self-fulfilling prophecy. If this saying is true and your words can really manipulate the outcomes of your life, are you guilty of being your own worst enemy? Do you subconsciously set yourself up for failure?

I think that at some point in time, we have all said something negative like, “I don’t think I did well on (blank)” or “Oh well, if (blank) doesn’t work out…” and so on. Is it possible that this came true because we didn’t feel confident in whatever it was? Well some people swear this is true. Have you ever heard of the “Law of Attraction?” This is basically says that you attract whatever you think about into your life. If you are constantly dwelling on the negative, you are bringing the negative into your life. Therefore, if you want things to start changing for the better, you should start thinking more positive.

How can you change your mindset?

This isn’t something that can happen overnight. If you are used to doing certain things, it becomes a habit. If you were always thinking something bad will happen, it will be hard changing your tone at first. However, start incorporating more phrases like “I can” or “I will” instead and you will start noticing yourself using them more. When you start hearing yourself saying negative things, switch it up and making it a mantra saying that good things will happen.

What if things still go bad?

Even if things don’t go your way, you should still keep a positive attitude toward it. Just because something doesn’t work out the way you thought it should doesn’t mean to give up. You just got to think of a way to make it work for you. For example, if you don’t do well on selling something today, find out where you can improve, and say you will do better next time. If you go in confident, you will be more likely to succeed than if you tried while expecting failure. Don’t even really even consider it failing, but a learning lesson on what not to do. Trust, if you learn from your mistakes, you will be less likely to repeat them again.
