Are You Celebrating National Nut Day?

It’s been said that every day is a holiday, that being the case I researched what October 22nd has in store for us. You’ll be happy to know that October 22nd is National Nut Day. Now before we get too carried away with our celebration here, I must be very clear that the information isn’t overly clear on whether or not we are celebrating the food sort of nut or the nut sort of nut. That being said here are a few ways to celebrate National Nut Day with your loved ones.

Gather Your Favorite Nuts

To start with you’ll need to have some of your favorite nuts on hand so grab Aunt Edna and her strange friends and tell them it’s a celebration. If things go as usual they won’t know what you’re celebrating so just play along and all will go smoothly. Supply several different kinds of nuts and enjoy the day cherishing old memories and knowing that you have made their day special. After all, you might be just like Aunt Edna one day.

Eat To Your Hearts Content

Go nut shopping and pick up some of your favorite nuts. Whether it be almonds (one of my personal favorites) or cashews (you can keep those dad) gather some up and if weather permits go for a walk and enjoy the fall foliage while nibbling on your favorite nuts. If the weather is crummy simply watch a few old movies and cherish the reason to celebrate watching old movies and nibbling on your favorite nuts.

Remember that the nuts are a healthy nutritious snack and good for you. Don’t forget your favorite variations such as on top of an ice cream sundae, in your favorite granola, or even the proverbial banana nut bread. However you eat your favorite nuts remember that you have a good reason to eat them today and celebrate right along with them.

Health Benefits

Nuts are an excellent source of protein and are rich in fiber. Full of antioxidants including Vitamin E and selenium they are also high in plant sterols. Unsaturated and polyunsaturated fats (omega 3) make your favorite nuts good for lowering your LDL cholesterol. Nuts have also been shown to reduce the risk of Type II Diabetes. According to other studies vegetarians that have an increased consumption of nuts have been shown to extend their lives by up to 2 years.

So now that you know what today is, go out and grab your favorite nuts and start your own celebration.
