A Reason to Be Afraid of the Dark

I have experienced some spooky incidences when I was younger, but my husband’s stories are better than mine. I am easily spooked, but I love it! Guess, I may be a glutton for punishment.

The house where my husband grew up was originally a duplex type dwelling that was a rental. When the building was purchased, it became renovated into a one family dwelling with an upstairs and a basement. There were three bedrooms in the basement. One of them was my husband’s. The first night in his new bedroom, Dustin slept on the floor. He groggily woke up and was feeling around for his blanket. He didn’t find it right away. The reason he quickly didn’t find the blanket was that it was above him, out of his reach! Dustin looked over to his right shoulder and saw what appeared to be a pair of translucent chalky-white feet. He was not curious to find out where the feet led to and did not dare look up. Dustin panicked and screamed! His sister heard and ran into the room and saw the blanket hovering above him. It began to fall angling off to the side of the bed. His sister checked every nook and cranny in the basement for someone or something and found nothing. We sleep in that room when we visit family.

Another story my husband told, has me avoiding their city park at night. This was during high school on a weekend where Dustin and a friend were cruising around town. It was a clear night, not a cloud in the sky and they decided to drive to the edge of town, towards the ridge. The road to the ridge goes by the city park that has a creek running through it. This road leads into the east part of town. As they drove, they noticed a white misty cloud. Dustin and his friend thought it was strange to have this misty cloud passing through the ridge as there was no fog or clouds. They continued driving on the road. His friend would slow down. The mist would slow down. They would speed up, it would speed up. They both thought this was really strange. Finally, the cloudy mist crossed paths with the truck and glided over the hood. Dustin and his friend saw a face in the misty cloud that appeared to be that of a young girl. They both ducked underneath the dashboard of the vehicle. They were freaked! They went straight home where family saw their pale faces and were asked what had happened. Dustin told their story. The next day, they realized that the previous night was the anniversary death of twins that fell into the raging creek many years ago. One twin fell into the creek and the other went into the water after her. The twin girls drowned. In the city park is a little marker by the creek in their memory.
