5 Embarrassing Plays in Green Bay Packers History

With all great teams and players, we are captivated by all of the amazing thing they can accomplish while playing their respective games. However, they are humans just like we us and things do not always go according to plan. These are just a few plays that I’m sure the Green Bay Packers would like to have back.

Embarrassing Play #1

Green Bay Packers vs Philadelphia Eagles T
This play is so infamous, it’s been simply dubbed “4 th and 26″. This play happened in the fourth quarter of a heated playoff contest between two NFC powerhouses. Needing only stop the Eagles on 4 th down to take the game, the Green Bay Packers blew their coverage and allowed a completion to Freddie Mitchell. This allowed the Eagles to keep their drive alive, as well as set up a David Akers field goal to win the game.

Embarrassing Play #2

Green Bay Packers vs the New York Giants
With the NFC Championship on the line, Brett Favre threw an interception late in the game that essentially gift-wrapped the game for the New York Giants. The game was tied 20-20 and the Green Bay Packers only needed a field goal to send themselves to their fifth Super Bowl in franchise history. Not all was lost though,as Aaron Rodgers took the trophy home just three years later.

Embarrassing Play #3

Green Bay Packers vs Draft Day
This isn’t exactly a play, as much as it was an important moment in the teams history. Ted Thompson has yet to be questioned with his draft day genius, until he raised eyebrows a few years ago. In the 2007 draft, Thompson drafted Justin Harrell out of Tennessee to much shock of the Packers hopeful back home. The team had many needs at the time, and defensive line wasn’t one of them. Already known for his injury history in college, Harrell couldn’t stay on the field long enough to make an impact with the team. I’m sure the name Tony Mandarich still makes the Green Bay faithful scratch their heads as well.

Embarrassing Play #4

Green Bay Packers vs the San Francisco 49ers
If only replay challenges could have been used in this game back in 1999. Nearing the end of a wild card playoff game, Jerry Rice caught a pass on the final drive, fumbled and the ball was recovered by the Green Bay Packers. Unfortunately for Green Bay, the officials ruled him down by contact and the 49ers retained the ball, ultimately winning the game.

Embarrassing Play #5

Green Bay Packers vs St Louis Rams
This play just happened recently in Green Bay; after getting his first sack of the season, AJ Hawk got a little bit too excited and gestured an obscenity to his own sideline. Of course this occurred in front of everyone in the Lambeau Field, as well as those watching at home. AJ Hawk has been a role model player since joining the team as a first round draft pick, but I’m sure this is a moment in his career he’d love to have back.
