2012 Golden Globe Awards: Review of the 2012 Golden Globe Award Dresses

The stars arrived at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards in an array of chic and eclectic fashions. Here is a breakdown on some of the memorable evening gowns worn on the red carpet.

Kelly Osbourne
Kelly my dear, what WERE you thinking? That was the first sentance uttered out of my mouth when she showed up in a frighteningly bad, electric blue mermaid gown. To top this terror under the sea look off was a crop of grayish-white hair which gave her just a hint of ‘Golden Girls’. My pick for worst ensemble of the evening.

Sharon Osbourne
Maybe mom should have helped daughter pick out a dress for the Golden Globes! Ms. Osbourne looked divine in a floor length, full skirted print dress in black and white floral. Her fiery red hairstyle off-set the dress magnificently. Rock on, Sharon!

Katherine McPhee
The American Idol beauty arrived wearing a nude, strapless gown with pumps to match. Not bad, but the look was way to monochromatic and seemed to blend in with her skin tone way to much. A few colorful accessories would have livened this look up a lot.

Piper Perabo
Ms. Perabo arrived in a so-so grey toned dress that left little to the imagination. Apart from the color being drab and dreary, the skirt was way too sheer and demanded a full slip or petticoat underneath. The silver pumps rocked however, and I also think some splashy silver accessories would have worked wonders for this dress as well.

Nicole Richie
The always lovely Ms. Richie arrived in an elegant silver, woven gown reminciscient of a Greek goddess. The sparkly bangle cuffs and cocktail ring were an excellent choice for this look. One of my favorite gowns of the evening by far.

Ariel Winter
Oh my. I don’t know what exactly to say about this one. I like the whole 1950s bouffant look, but the frilly purple skirt with the black netting was too much. She comes across looking like a plastic lilac flower plant that Grandma would have had in her bathroom back in the day.

Missi Pyle
Needless to say, I haven’t been too impressed with many of the gowns this year, but this one definately made my list of favorites. Ms. Pyle looked gorgeous in a full skirted yellow and gold tulle gown, befitting a classic Hollywood starlet. The thing I would change about this one, again, would be some colorful accessories to make it pop out more.

Julianna Marguiles
A possible tie with Kelly Osbourne as the worst dressed of the evening. This hideous, muscle colored dress is just WRONG on every level. It has no shape, the color is horrible, and the material looks bargain-basement. Also, last time I checked, bright green earrings didn’t match anything the color of eggplants.

Jessica Chastain
A breath of fresh air indeed! I absolutley LOVED this simple gown of white chiffon, and the little pearls scattered all over gave it an elegant, yet unusual touch. She looked absolutley gorgeous! Love this one.
Clare Danes
Another score! This elegant black and white ensemble looked divine on Ms. Danes. This style of dress was very much a throw back to the gowns worn in the 1930s, with its Art Deco-esque sleeves and long, straight skirt. Simply stunning.

Sarah Michelle Gellar
I simply loved this dress. Ms. Gellar arrived in a very full skirted, elegant dress with a twist: Tie Dye. The white dress with the blue tie dye looked like water and definately gave the classic evening gown a unique edge without looking over the top.

Octavia Spencer
Ms. Spencer looked absolutely beautiful in a simple, lavender dress. Normally I am not a fan of anything in lavender, but this shade was very soft and elegant, and the jewel accents on the dress gave it the right touch.

Angelina Jolie
The beautiful Angelina looked smashing as always in an ivory satin gown with subtle red accents. I liked the simple red along the neckline of this gown with the matching handbag very much, but one thing I must ask her handsome husband Brad: What on EARTH is with the cane?!

Sarah Hyland
I absolutley adore anything in lace, and this dress was very classy and pretty. The only complaint I had with this gown was that I wish it had been in a different color besides nude. While it’s elegant, pink or ivory would have been a better choice and would have made it stand out a little more.

Emily Deschanel and Zooey Deschanel
The talented sisters arrived in some very interesting and unusual dresses. Emily’s dress reminded me of the 1980s ‘Dynasty’ era dresses sans shoulder pads, and personally I found the ensemble to be a tad boring. Zooey on the other hand looked adorable in a 1960s inspired gown with a lime green, beaded bodice and black skirt.

Emily Watson
Dislike. Three ladies just might actually tie now for worst dress of the evening! I don’t know where to even begin with this one, but I must advise my dear Ms. Watson to please pick out a dress that doesn’t blend in with her skin tone and to pick out one that actually flatters her figure. Also, that gold chain necklace looks like it was picked up at Marshall Fields.

Maria Menounos
Ms. Menounos arrived in a chic, flattering dress with an adorable, ‘Mad Men’ esque beehive. I liked the bright yellow on her, but the sequins all over kind of made it a little over the top. A short sequined mini dress would have probably worked better.

Debra Messing
As always, the elegant Ms. Debra looked divine in an all black ensemble. You can never go wrong with an LBD (Little Black Dress), and Debra proves time and time again that the classics never go out of style. Simply beautiful!
