2011 NFL Fantasy Football Draft Guide, Preseason Week 1

Is your fantasy draft this weekend, August 11-13? Good luck to you, you have nothing to go on. The good news? Neither does the competition. The victor, then, is going to be that General Manager who makes the fewest mistakes.
Don’t Overreact:
Ten teams had their first game on Thursday, August 10. The rest will play Friday and Saturday, with a Monday night game between the New York Jets and Houston Texans. If you are drafting this weekend, most of the players with which you are familiar won’t have seen the field.
With so little on which to base ones preparation, your more fickle owners are going to jump at every supposed standout performance.
Michael Vick went 4 of 6, for 74 yards and a touchdown in his first, only, series for the Eagles Thursday night. Vick is poised to have another wonderful year, but it’s going to take first round pick to get him. Let the other guy screw up his team. Be patient. Take a stellar running back like you are supposed to. You can still get a top-tier QB with your next pick, Meanwhile the Vick owner is going to find all of the A-list runners are already gone.
Don’t Get Cute:
In the 2011 NFL Fantasy Football Emergency Preparedness Kit we recommend you don’t take chances. There is a lot of spotty information, especially this early in the newly salvaged season. Big-name rookies and potential sleepers are going to garner high draft picks as GM’s struggle to outsmart one another.
Let that happen. Scoop up the Wes Welkers and Ryan Grants who get passed over. But, don’t assume you are the only one at your draft who knows what they’re doing. Someone like a Ryan Matthews is going to still be sitting there in the 5th round, but so might an Antonio Gates. If you already, wisely, took two good running backs with earlier picks, pursue the every-week-starter tight end, before that other guy does.
Do Not Draft a Denver Broncos QB:
The Broncos could have entered the 2011 season content to weather a reasonable season on the not-spectacular arm of Kyle Orton. Instead they drafted Tim Tebow, a living, breathing quarter back controversy. Tebow is not safe enough to start, but is too exciting to leave on the bench, and in a mere ten minutes, Thursday night, blurred the Bronco QB picture beyond recognition.
In completing 6 out of 7, to garner a 118.8 passer rating, Tebow assured no one is going to be happy with the announced starter on opening day, whoever it is. Brady Quinn put up 120-yards and a touchdown just to keep things interesting.
Do yourself a favor and stay clear.
