10 Must Have IPhone Apps

The Apple Apps Store contains over 425,000 apps. On my phone I have so many apps I have to use the search function just to locate the ones I want to use. Out of the myriad of apps on my iPhone, there are a few that take center stage and get used every day.

Entertainment

Since my children confiscate my iPad as soon as I walk in the house, I am left with what my daughter refers to as “the little phone” to entertain myself. The apps below are my favorite “little phone” entertainment apps.

Netflix (free with a Netflix account) – Netflix comes up on almost everyone’s list. You can watch movies and television shows on your phone. These apps look great on the iPhone’s Retina screen. PBS (free) – You can watch full episodes of popular PBS series, like the Antiques Road Show, and Frontline. The PBS app also has the AirPlay function, so if you have an Apple Tv, you can stream the shows to your HDTV. Adult Swim (free) – Watch full episodes of your favorite Adult Swim shows like The Boondocks, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and Family Guy. Pandora (free) – It seems everyone knows about Pandora’s customized music streaming service, but did you know Pandora has comedy stations? They have everything from the Comedy Icon Station to the Urban Comedy Station; it’s hours of good laughs.

Shopping

Smartphone apps are changing the way we shop. The following iPhone apps introduce convenience, and value for the user.

Starbucks Mobile Card (free) – Starbucks has found an ingenious way to keep their customers coming back. Load a Starbucks gift card with money, enter the card number in the Starbucks mobile app, then your iPhone becomes your card. You can use your iPhone at Starbucks to buy coffee without cash or cards. You can even reload your card from your iPhone. Target (free) – This is one of the best everyday shopping apps. With the Target app you can see the current circular, scan product barcodes (even at home) and Target will locate the product for you in their stores, make shopping lists and conduct (amazingly accurate) voice activated product searches. Gilt on the Go (free) Gilt is a high end shopping site that has flash sales for luxury brands. You get an alert everyday on your iPhone when it’s time to shop, and you better be ready because these deals go fast! You can save hundreds on some of the most desired fashions and travel packages. Gilt is also an invitation only site, but if you sign up they will send you one, or you can accept my invitation.

Productivity

The productivity apps listed are not free, but they are apps that I really use on a regular basis. I feel these apps are worth every penny.

Scanner Pro (6.99) – Scanner Pro allows you to scan documents with the camera on your iPhone, then email or fax them to the desired recipient. This integrates with Evernote, Dropbox, and Google Docs. SpeechTrans (Lite Version Free, Regular 9.99) – SpeechTrans is a speech to text translation app for your iPhone. Speak in English, and the app will translate it, type it, and say it in your desired language. SpeechTrans also integrates with Facebook chat. LogMeIn Ignition (14.99) – Allows users to access their home computers from their mobile devices. You will be able to see and use (open files, send emails, etc..)your entire desktop on your iPhone with LogMeIn. You can also activate your camera and see what your kids are doing on the computer.
