Over the years we have seen airlines try just about anything to increase sales and decrease company costs all in an effort to to stay in the black. So having an airline try something new to attract customers isn’t really all that surprising, but as Ryanair announces it’s intentions to introduce availability of a wider selection of in-flight entertainment choices. That is until they begin listing off the selection.
Porn in Hand
While some airlines have been cutting down on the in-flight amenities, the Irish airline, Ryanair, has decided to not only increase it’s entertainment choices but take an entirely different tact in that department. The head of Ryanair, Michael O’Leary, announced that the airline intends to provide pornographic films through a pay-per-view service.
These films will not be played on the large screens according to O’Leary. Instead they will be accessible through an application which would display the movie of your choice on your phone or tablet computer. An option that could be convenient for teen boys worldwide, but hardly addresses the issue of improper viewing for all passengers. As of yet there have been no statements as to the viewing limitations for those sitting near children or even adults who simply have no desire to view pornographic films via their neighbor.
The Bright Side
Fortunately this option will take at least a year to implement if in fact it is approved. This is due in part to the difficulty of securing a powerful enough connection that would be available to passengers for Ryanair. And the application will offer more than just porn to Ryanair passengers. O’Leary also hopes to offer gambling which would need to be paid for by the passengers as well as less racy games and movies.
Only time will tell if O’Leary’s dream takes flight, but you have to ask yourself if the option to gamble and watch porn is realy appropriate for public flights. And it should be a fairly easy question to answer. While Ryanair offers some of the most reasonably priced European flights the offer of porn not only makes them inexpensive, it makes them seem cheap as well.
