Wits and Wagers is a trivia game full of questions which it’s extremely likely that nobody will be able to guess the answer correctly. That’s ok though, because whoever gets the closest wins chips. Even if you aren’t the one that made the correct guess, you have a second chance to guess the correct answer and win. Part of the fun of Wits and Wagers is seeing how far off your answers are from the correct one and sharing a laugh together with the other players.
Wits and Wagers is a game that can be played between up to seven individuals, or groups of players divided up into as many as seven teams. To start each round, the host reads one of the questions off the question cards. An example of a question could be “how many McDonald Restaurants are there in China?”, see I told you they weren’t easy. Each player then writes down his best answer to the question on a answer square with a marker that can be erased at the end of each round. Once all the answers are provided, the host arranges those answers on the game board.
On the game board, the answers are arranged from lowest to highest. Each player can see that some answers that are furthest from the middle answer pay more chips for a correct guess. You can also guess an answer that is lower or higher than any of those provided. Doing that pays the most number of chips if you are correct. After each player wagers on which answer he thinks is closest without going over, the correct answer is then revealed. Any players wagering on the answer that is closest without going over is paid off a number of chips times their wager based on the odds printed on the game board. Any incorrect wagers are collected and lost by the wagering players, and placed back into the bank. A bonus of three chips is paid to the player that provided the answer that was closest to correct.
A game of Wits and Wagers typically consists of 7 rounds. The player with the most chips after seven rounds is the winner. The questions in this game can be so obscure, that unless players have a great knowledge of obscure facts, the entertainment will come in seeing the guesses you and your friends make, just as much as winning the game.
Wits and Wagers is a game that is easy to teach to your friends to play.
