Why I Made the 2011 Kia Sportage Mine

Long before my Saturn started to show signs that its days were numbered, I read an article about the top cars for various personality types. For the young and tech savvy, it praised the Kia Sportage for its many standard features and affordable starting price.

Months later, the long journey to replace my vehicle began. Despite my attempts at going green in every other area, I could not give up my sports utility vehicle. I’d become accustomed to being able to load up whatever purchases might catch my eye and to pack in family and friends when needed. I loved the features of the Lexus RX and the style of the Range Rovers, but not the price tags. After testing the Hyundai Santa Fe and Tucson, the Toyota Highlander, and various others, I recalled the article and headed to the Kia dealership. I was not disappointed; for the young professional or the mom not ready for a minivan, the 2011 Kia Sportage is it.

With a starting price around $18,500, the sleek looks of a pricier crosser and my personal favorite, the built in Bluetooth, the style and features of the Sportage leave the impression of a much more expensive vehicle. Although I was hesitant about the 4-cylinder, the Kia is not lacking in power and the estimated 29 miles per gallon for highway driving is tolerable when gas prices skyrocket. It’s equally comfortable for my 6″2′ husband and I to drive with a roomy backseat for passengers and a decent size trunk for cargo.

Driving on a major highway for my daily commute made safety a major concern for me, as it is for most. The Kia crossover answers the call with dual side airbags and front and rear head airbags. Stability and transaction control aid the driver in sticky situations. Power locks, windows and mirrors along with cruise control and radio controls on the steering wheel make my commute a little more comfy.

The standard tech and entertainment features really did blow my mind. The built in Bluetooth was simple to set up and is a true lifesaver, keeping my cell hands free with voice dialing and clear, crisp sound. I love that I can play MP3s as well as CDs and have multiple USB ports to keep my iPhone charged on long trips. The built in iPod integration is great for Mac fans like me. The free Sirius radio for three months was just the icing on the cake.
