Why I Am Not Buying an IPhone 4S

So, you may have heard about this little company named Apple. And you may have heard of this new thing their selling called the iPhone. This device has come to its fifth generation; well, four and a half. This phone is, so far, the best selling smartphone ever. It had record breaking pre-orders followed by multinational record breaking sales. What are these millions actually buying? Or, not buying.

Well, I’m not buying into it. Apple has a bad habit of playing it’s fan base out of their entire years salary, and I think their doing it again. They launch a ‘new’ product and the world bows at their feet, but why? Is it to stay in touch with the newest and greatest? If that is the case, Samsung has a lineup of deliciously adventurous devises. A lineup which Apple is sueing, in my opinion, out of fear. This is not to say that apple doesn’t make a buyable device. That is for each consumer to decide.

Apple has made all smart devices (computers, tablets, smartphones, etc.) what they are today. Innovative and daring, Apple’s new ideas drive the electronics market. If not by sales, it’s by pushing the competitors to try and stay in the race (which is hard to say as a Windows fan-boy). All of Apples success is due to one man.

Steve Jobs was a good man who will be missed as a tech guru and leader of the Apple empire. He did amazing things for Apple and the world of technology. And I’m sure he was happy he got to see the beginning of the wide spread success of his last creation.

The 4S may not be super appealing in the hardware department but it does come rocking some pretty neat tools. Siri voice navigation ,while not new in theory, is more advanced than any other voice command app. They made it as if you were talking to an actual assistant, one who couldn’t get your lunch order wrong. The reason is; Instead of running from the device itself, every demand goes through the almighty Apple server. The 4S also comes carrying an 8 megapixel camera that shoots with, or outshoots, the best in the league and tag-teams a real high definition 1080p video recorder. They even added a second core to their A-series, Samsung produced, processor. Now, what good is that new CPU in today’s market?

When apple announced the new iPhone’s new dual core brain they cleverly avoided mentioning an official clock speed. It seems to me that they were, in fact, avoiding a mention of it clocking In at 200mhz slower than the iPhone 4. Honestly, I’m a speed guy. You can have all the cool gadgets in the world but if the phone is slow, you’ve already lost me. Having a duel core processor is pretty awesome (something my Windows Phone doesn’t have), but is it awesome enough to sacrifice base CPU speed. To me it is not, especially with the below par multi-tasking abilities of iOS.

On the same road, I’ve heard rumors of a new A6 processor Coming off the Samsung line. Now, this was just a rumor, but i heard the new chip is quad core which is unheard of in a phone. If this is to believed, does this mean a new iPhone for the spring? I wouldn’t be surprised. Apple seems to like your money so much they’ll steal it twice in a year.

Okay, back to siri. As cool as it may sound, it used to be an app available to all iOS devises, just not as integrated. After the release of the 4S, users who had the free app on other gadgets found a cute little message telling them they needed the 4S to further use the ability. That, to me, sounds like Apple pulling every string they have attached to their fan base trying to make them dive into their newest disappointment. Apple tries to cover this up by saying they’re “working on it” for the iPhone 4 and iPad 2, but Third party developers have already cracked that code, only without the access to the Apple server that controls the siri.

So far, there’s nothing overwhelming to me about the new device. It’s running slower than last years phone and is substandard compared to the likes of HTC, Motorola, and Samsung with a price to match their high end devises. I may just be disappointed at the lack of an iPhone 5, but I’m more disappointed in what apple is trying to pass as ‘new’. iOS 5 is available for all the iOS gadgets, only without ole siri tagging along.

After updating my iPad I see some pretty awesome features in the new firmware, but nothing that would require a new phone. Even the voice commands work fine, though I have to talk at it, and not to it, but that’s how you’re supposed to talk to an assistant. Right?
