What You Should Wear to Jury Duty

What should I wear to jury duty?

There isn’t a dress code for jury duty. However, you should keep in mind that you will be in court and your attire should be respectful. A conservative, business-casual outfit is a good guideline. Although suits and ties aren’t necessary, you still want to be comfortable. Stay away from tank tops, torn t-shirts, cut-off jeans and flip-flops, or any other sort of everyday, casual clothing.

Here are a few basic guides:

1. Dress comfortably, you don’t know how long you’ll be there.
2. Lean towards more conservative clothing.
3. Dress appropriate for the weather.
4. Wear layers so you can adjust to the temperature inside and outside the courtroom.

Examples of appropriate attire:

· Khaki pants
· Button-up shirts
· Blazers
· Dress skirts
· Cardigans
· Polo shirts

Examples of inappropriate attire:

· Cut-off jeans
· T-shirts
· Flip-flops or sandals
· Low cut shirts
· Tank tops
· Mini skirts

As a juror you want to blend in. The trial, the judge and the people involved in the case should be the focus of attention, not you. Just remember to be respectful of the court and the process.
