What Saying Thank You and Self Confidence Have in Common

Have you ever noticed that when you complement some people that they shy away from the complement or say oh that was nothing. Others make light of what they did while yet others simply remark your welcome and smile. I was thinking about this today and here is what I have come up with. Self confidence is extremely important in daily life but unfortunately it seems to elude many of us. We tend to take it for granted if we have it and we thirst for it if we don’t. Self confidence can make your life easier or a chore that has to be endured if fit is lacking.

As a Certified Life Coach I come across clients all the time that can achieve great things but they are lacking in self confidence. The simple task of helping them to realize this, is sometimes enough to prompt the beginnings of a positive change. Once that ball is rolling there is no end to the goals they can achieve. One easy way to gauge self confidence in a client is to complement them. If the individual accepts the complement they are confident but if they shy away from it seemingly undeserving, that can be a sign of trouble.

Mind tools has a great quiz called How Confident Are You that gauges your confidence level.

Clients that come for coaching often arrive at the session because their lack of self confidence is holding them back in achieving their goals. They look to others for guidance instead of looking within. To really achieve happiness you need to have the confidence to follow your dreams and believe in yourself.

Self confidence can be achieved by changing some small basic behaviors. Sometimes it works well to look back at past accomplishments that you felt you did well at and that can bring you a sense of joy and confidence. I recently wrote a 30 page Self Confidence Report listing some tips and tricks for gaining self confidence. They can be as simple as being grateful, meditating or helping others.

According to Lifehack.org

”Self confidence is a tool you can use in your everyday life to do all kinds of cool stuff, not least to stop second-guessing yourself, manage your fears and become able to do more of the things that really matter to you.”

They have 63 ways to build self confidence that I think are brilliant.

You do great things and you do deserve thanks for those wonderful things you do. So the next time someone thanks you for something you did or gives you a complement, show how confident you are and say thank you.
