Visit London, England for a Sublime Time

My first trip to London, England was in late February 2002. It was a great time to visit as the days were starting to lengthen and get warmer, but it was still cool enough to be comfortable when walking around. I had the good fortune to stay in a private home with my mate and his roomies. Their house was only a few blocks from the nearest Underground station, which was a huge plus. Here’s a list of four places that should not be missed:

Nando’s

This is one of the best places to go for a quick, inexpensive meal that is sure to warm you from the inside out. Nando’s sells Portuguese-styled cooking using their secret ingredient: Peri-Peri. The food is amazingly delicious. They can be found all over London. My favorite is the chicken breast in pitta, which is less spicy but still flavorful. Don’t forget to buy a bottle or two of their sauce to bring home.

London Sea Life Aquarium

I love aquariums so I insisted on checking out the one in London. I loved looking at the more than 500 species housed there. I especially loved the clownfish, which have always been my favorite. They have a shark tank with a suspended glass platform that allows you to walk over four species of sharks, if you’re brave enough. I loved the gift shop, too.

Harrods

No visit to London can be complete without a visit to the opulent Harrods. The store even has a dress code! You can find clothes, accessories, shoes, perfume, luggage and gifts. They have food stuff to buy and you can have a proper afternoon tea in the Georgian Restaurant. Just remember to call ahead to book a table.

Trafalgar Square

When I was in my early 20s I was a nanny and the family I worked for went to England. They brought me back a t-shirt featuring Trafalgar Square and it became a goal to visit there some day. These days, the square features Nelson’s Column, which was erected to commemorate the Battle of Trafalgar, and is guarded by four large lions. Also located at the square are many statues and two fountains as well as the National Gallery and St. Martin-in-the-Fields parish church.

London is filled with so many places to explore from museums, historical sites, theaters, shopping and dining. You really can’t go wrong. Cheerio!
