It is Christmas today
Day of cheer
Day of gifts
Day of food
All of these are fine
But for me I like to remember
To remember the good times
The bad
The hard
I remember my family who is long gone
How my grandfather used to sit on that couch
Smiling
Warming himself by the roaring fire
I remember all the fun we had together
I think of how lucky we are
A new job
A good life
I enjoy Christmas
Not for the gifts
The food
The cheer
But for the remembering that comes with it
To remember
How lucky we are
