The President wants the power to “streamline government” and cut waste. A Depression-era power that expired in 1984.
“No business or nonprofit leader would allow this kind of duplication or unnecessary complexity in their operations,” Obama declares. “So why is it OK for our government? It’s not. It has to change.”
So where does he want to start? By eliminating the Commerce Department, elevating the Small business Administration to a Cabinet level position and essentially destroying (not streamlining) the trade and commerce of America.
Recently, the President decided to block jobs in North Dakota. The Keystone oil project, specifically. Which killed 20,000 jobs. His reasoning was that Congress did not have enough time to adequately document and explain the project. Which seems odd when compared to the swiftness he and Congress employed during the “we have to pass the bill to find out whats in it” legislation of Obamacare.
Although the two may seem unconnected, they are actually one in the same issue.
The President wants more and more power to reshape America, one where he has the luxury of an internet “kill switch”, no matter how he gets it. (Originally a Homeland Security ploy and later a legislative piracy call to arms with SOPA and PIPA.) An America where he can control the entire commerce of America AND decide which jobs are created and which are not, through legislated and regulated enterprises.
President Obama, as a community activist and a lawyer, with no business background, has shown on numerous occasions he doesn’t understand the market or the American economy. Yet he still tries to be the great American educator and try to explain, as he did with Obamacare, to the American public principles he doesn’t understand.
Eliminating government waste and duplication is a good thing. Doing so in the wrong way can be disastrous. Instead of putting forth his own plan, which is based on flawed understanding of the market and business practices, shows an agenda that has nothing to do with contracting the size of government and more to do with consolidating power.
The President would best be suited to read up on some of the waste as identified by other members of Congress who have a firmer grasp on the mechanics of business. For instance, Sen. Tom Coburn (R-NV) recently published his “Wastebook” for 2011. If the President were to read this, he might get an idea where some waste can be found. Or read the publications of groups like Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW), which document what they identify as unnecessary “pork” added to legislation. He might actually get the “real” picture, and not one fabricated by DC insiders who just want to protect the special interests they serve. And he can keep his hands off jobs, which he still does not realize government has no part in creating. It can only supply an atmosphere for jobs to be created, not actually create them itself.
Agree with the President’s words but disagree with his wrong thinking on how to get things done. Making changes simply for the sake of making a change is a mistake. Change with a goal in mind, a goal that benefits the American people not Washington, is not only a worthier endeavor, but a smart move.
Agree or disagree with me makes no difference. Learning to think about the issues and not simply taking the word of others does make a difference to me. I want everyone to think about things and not just regurgitate statistics and numbers they hear others throw around. An informed governed makes for a safer and better country. Simply following what others tell you as fact, even me, is a path that leads to dictatorship. I want you to think about what I say, but essentially, this is just me, Thinking Out Loud.
