The Soul Train Awards

This years Soul Train Awards presentation was nothing less than awesome! If your a fan of hip hop, r&b, or soul music in general, then you had to be glued to the TV last night as the show started out with a stellar performance from Faith Evans and El Debarge with the killer tune “Lay With You.”

I wasn’t surprised at all when I saw that Nicki Minaj got the award for best hip hop song with her smash hit “Moment For Life “. I couldn’t imagine how hard it was for them to pick which song to give it to her for since she has so many great songs. Personally, I can think of at least 3 other songs by Nicki Minaj that I like better than that one. It’s no big secret that she has changed the way women are viewed in the world of hip hop. When she hooked up with Lil Wayne, it was a match made in heaven. If it was me, I would have given her a few more awards.Jill Scott won the award for best female R&B and soul artist While the song of the year went to Kelly Rowland for her hit single “Motivation”.

Beyoncegot the reward for best dance performance with “Run the World”. I’d like to know what’s happening to Beyonce? You all know it’s true. She is slowly declining in popularity. She needs to come out with a new single that captivates her audience. What’s all this negative publicity I am seeing with her and Keri Hillson? Is it possible that the stage is being set for a huge cat fight between these two mega-stars? When Hillson came out with “Pretty Girl Rock”, I called my friends and ask them if they had heard this new Beyonce song–lol. I really thought it was Beyonce and it sounded just like her to me. No, there’s not going to be any cat fight. More than likely, this is another publicity stunt being put on by the two drama queens.

Eric Benet had the full attention of the audience when he performed “Sometimes I Cry”. You could tell that the audience really enjoyed his performance as they watched and smiled. Gyptian did great with his song and the dancers behind him were really entertaining as they strutted across the stage. Miquel got the award for best new artist and Cee-Lo Green got rewarded as the best r&b and soul artist. Rihanna hasn’t slowed down at all and she got best Caribbean performance with “Man Down”. The best gospel performance went to Mary Mary for “Walking”. I can’t believe Chris Brown was nominated for 5 awards but went home with only the album of the year with “F.A.M.E”. Record of the year went to Marsha Ambrosious with her album “Far Away”. Cassandra Wilson got the award for the best traditional jazz album and best contemporary jazz album went to Dave Koz.

I was glad to see that these super stars were not afraid to remember those artist who have inspired them. Gladys Night was remembered along with Earth, Wind, And Fire by Natalie Cole, Eric Benet, and others. Heavy D was praised for his inspiration by Kurtis Blow and Naughty By Nature, just to name a couple. i got all my content from watching it on TV and then i went here to make sure that I spelled all their names correctly.
