The Show Down Gabbert Verses Newton Jaguars Week Three

Well I will be the first to say the game was not what I expected from either of the quarterbacks.

Newton going in to week three was only behind Tom Brady of the Patriots in throwing yards and I thought we would see that today but the weather in Carolina grounded the throwing game.

Cam Newton was held by the Jaguar defense to only 158 yards for the entire game.

The start for Blaine Gabbert was a safety in the first quarter and there were plenty of dropped balls on the Jaguars offensive side. The Panthers in the first half seemed to contain Jones Drew but in the second half Drew pulled out all the stops in the game having 122 yards.

The weather was a factor in the first half of the game with a strong down pour into the second quarter.

Penalties by Eugene Monroe hurt the Jaguars offensively and the team racked up 60 yards while the Panthers racked up 69 yards in penalties.

The game was pretty even and as far as an overall winner in the showdown between Gabbert and Newton I felt as it ended in a draw. The game was pretty even looking at the statics with time possession, total yards, first downs, and only one interception from Gabbert that really had no impact because Carolina did not score off the turn over.

For the most part of the game the Jaguar defense held Newton down, but could not stop the running game of the Panthers the entire game.

The Jaguars really hurt themselves this game and if I was Jack Del Rio I would be living large on the stupid mistakes that cost the Jaguars this game.

First of all you need to come down hard on Turk the punter who had a terrible game. Turk had bad punts all night long giving the Panthers great field position, and even dropped one ball.

Second you need to stop the penalties that put the Jaguars inside the 10 yard line several times.

Gabbert actually got lucky today also there were four times the snap ended in a fumble but the Jaguars managed to hang onto the ball, even Drew dropped the ball twice in the game.

The defense had ample times for interceptions from Cam Newton and never got one.

The last play you wanted to scream as the offensive line could not get it together to win the game.

The good news for the Jaguars is that the Texans lost and are at 2-1, but the bad news is the Titans won leaving them at 2-1, and the Colts lost again leaving them at 0-3, and the Jaguars 1-2. The division is still obtainable if the Jaguars can find a way to win fast!
