The Not-So-Big Issues of Motherhood

Having a baby for the first time can involve lots of different emotions. Emotions of happiness – – in some cases – – sad feelings arise, if it was not at the best time in life or under the best circumstances. No matter what emotions involved, ready or not, here comes baby.

Most young mothers-to-be are faced with fear. Fear of not being able to provide for their new baby. Fear of not knowing how to raise the child as they may still technically be a child themselves. Sometimes there are fears of overwhelming, no-so-understanding parents of the mother-to-be.

The first thing to remember is the expectant mother needs to relax and take a deep breath. All the fears and emotions will pass.

When it comes to raising the baby, there are a few simple things to consider. Every mother has a natural instinct for raising their off-springs. When the baby is born, the needs of the baby really will come naturally to the mother.

While baby instruction books are great resources, they cannot be followed by the letter. They are just suggestions. The mother is the only one who truly knows what their baby needs.

Many mothers are confused by the decision to breastfeed or not. While there is scientific proof supporting the positive benefits of breast-milk over formula, it’s still completely the mother’s decision. Today’s baby formulas are much better than they were in the past with more vitamins and minerals which are comparable to a mother’s breast-milk.

For bottle-feeders, there is no need to choose anything definite before the baby is born. It’s the baby who will be using it. Spending a lot of money on one particular brand of bottles is not smart ahead of time. Some babies like the larger nipple designs like Playtex, other babies prefer the more traditional smaller nipples. Some babies won’t take the Playtex nipples, others won’t take the traditional. It’s all just trial and error.

When it comes to pacifiers, the truth is that some babies won’t take a pacifier at all. If they don’t seem interested, it’s not a good idea to force it. That’s just one more thing to wean them off of.

There are many selections today for diapers. There is an array of different types of Pampers , Huggies, Luvs, Parent’s Choice and many others to choose from. The truth of the matter is, every baby is different. Some babies do better with Huggies, others do better with Pampers. It depends on how the baby is shaped. Huggies might leak on the first baby, where they will work great on the second baby. Again, it’s all trial and error.

No matter what fears and questions an expectant mother might have about these issues, there is always someone who can help. Most hospitals offer parenting classes for infants. Those can be particularly helpful for the younger mothers.

It will all fall into place. The baby will train the mother in what he or she likes. There’s really nothing to sweat.
