The New Renault Twingo Makes World Debut in Frankfurt

Besides dozens of supercars and SUV, this year’s edition of the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show also marked the debut of a new wave of small cars, targeted at heavy urban traffic. And one of this debuts was the new Renault Twingo, which was the highlight of the French carmaker’s stand at the German show, due to its significant facelift.

Basically, the entire front part has been revised, the most notable new feature being the large front bumper that integrates the turn lights and the large fog lights. Another change was made to the Renault logo, whose size grew. At the rear, the new Twingo has received an additional set of tail lights integrated into the redesigned tailgate. At a closer look, we can also spot a small rear spoiler discretely integrated into the trunk lid.

The new Renault Twingo has several surprises for those that prefer their cars a little more unique, because 24 new wheel models and two colors (Blue Rose Fucshia and Bemuda) are available, with several roof decals will soon be available. Renault will also build the special Gordini and Renault Sport models and in the near future a soft sunroof will be added to the accessories range.

As you’d expect, the new Renault Twingo also features several important upgrades to the interior. First of all, we have a significant improve in the materials used and customers can now choose a custom color for the controls and air vents (there are four available, Gloss Black, Green Anise, Marjorelle Blue, Metallic Grey). Of course, being car launched in the technology era, the new Twingo has plenty of high tech features such as Bluetooth connectivity, iPod and iPhone docking station and the classic satellite navigation.

Under the bonnet, the engine offer includes a 1.5-liter diesel unit, available in two power output versions, 75 and 85 hp, and a 1.2-liter petrol engine, also available with two power outputs of 75 hp and 100 hp, for the TCE version. The top of the tine Twingo will be powered by a 1.6-liter 16 valves petrol engine that delivers 133 hp. According to the French carmaker, the car’s CO2 emission level will be extremely low, compared to the previous versions.

Though it’s quite popular, the Renault Twingo has never been seen as a fierce competitor in the small cars market, but with the new version the French carmaker has all the chances of “stealing” customers from other more popular cars like the Fiat 100 or even the recently unveiled Volkswagen Up!.
