The Emotiv Epoc

The Emotiv Epoc is a device that can help individuals who are disabled regain some of the functionality that they once had. The device sells for about $300 and the sdk is free at Emotiv. The device now is used in gaming with such gaming as pc, xbox 360 and Playstation 3. The device is used in several differnt places of the brain to keep the gamer’s character moving in the right direction. The character can make many moves just by using your mind to control the character to the right direction.

The Emotiv Epoc was first tested by two Nueroscientists Allan Synder and Neil Weste. The device was used to test Autistics with functionality of writing, thinking and cognitively expressing their thoughts. The device uses 14 electrodes on different places of the head. The brain can function with a computer or with a gaming device to reach higher motor skills and higher volumes of work at more speed.

Tan Le, an entrepeneur took on the Epoc in the latter part of 2005 and explains many wonderful things that the device can do. Many people find themselves overwhelmingly physically tired after using the epoc and lethargic because you really have to use your muscles in your skull to use it. Some people can’t work it at all. For individuals using assistive technologies, it would be really great to help them function some places of the brain that one couldn’t use before.
