Spiritual Basic Training: 50 Missions for a Spirit-Filled Life #17

“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened” (Luke 11:9-10). It truly is God’s living Word found in the Bible. We know that, but when we begin our spiritual basic training, we may need help discerning his message from someone who is seasoned in the Scriptures. We must look to veterans of the church and those who are studied in the way of God’s Word. They may offer the insight to a passage we are struggling to grasp. Never be afraid to ask or seek help from those who have gained God’s knowledge. It is the duty of every believer to pass on the message of God. We also have the accounting of Jesus Christ’s life to show us the way to lead a righteous life. His life is the model for all of us to strive to emulate. The New Testament is where we find Jesus’ teachings and his apostles’ guidance on righteous living. When we are lost or confused on where to begin seeking knowledge, find a veteran of the faith, and turn to Jesus in the New Testament. Jesus will show us the just way to engage our lives for his glory.

MISSION: Seek guidance

Seek out a veteran of the faith and utilize his or her knowledge of the Scripture. Find a mentor that is willing to take the time to instruct and interpret God’s Word for our understanding. This is key to attaining the knowledge we wish to acquire out of the Bible. Be patient when it comes to unraveling some of the more difficult passages. Prayer, focused study, and proper guidance from a wise mentor will enable all of God’s wonderful messages to come to our understanding.
