Sonnet for a Gingerbread House

Sweet ginger-spiced dreams run through my head,
Working in the most pleasant sort of way
To build my house of sweet gingerbread
The fun lasted nearly all of today.

Mix royal icing to serve as the glue.
Raise the walls and assemble the roof.
Marshmallow snowman with candy eyes blue,
With black licorice arms he stands so aloof.

Orange nonpareil for the snowman’s nose.
Green spearmint gumdrops stacked to make the tree.
Red licorice for the fence, candy windows,
I had better save some candy for me.

And now that the gingerbread house is done,
I think I’ll have some sweet tasty fun!
