Sensational Sconces to Light Your Walls

What do you do when you don’t have room on a table for a lighting fixture? Bring in a wall sconce. Wall sconces are terrific for bringing light into a room – yet not taking up any table or floor space. From candle to swing arm models, you can use them to bring light wherever you need it. Let me show you how.

• Candle Sconces

Starting with time-honored models used centuries ago, candle-style wall sconces come in many shapes, forms and sizes. Most traditional candle sconces are made from metals like brass, silver or pewter with one, two or three arms to hold electric-powered candles. Rustic models have iron or wood-carved candle holders. You can even purchase contemporary candle sconces with tall and wide pillar-shaped candles and wall-mounted bases made from any material you can imagine. No matter what type of candle sconce you choose, you’re guaranteed to have a slim, elegant source of light on your wall.

• Fancy Crystal

If you want a really ornate lighting source, consider a crystal sconce. With the actual light source close to the wall, surrounded many crystals draped from support forms, a crystal sconce bring glitters and bling to a room like no other fixture. Clear-cut or rainbow-colored crystals provide a beautiful sparkle wherever a little bit of glamour is needed.

• Swing Arm Lamps

If you looking for a more functional wall sconce, a swing-arm lamp is the way to go. Whether you select a small or large shaded fixture, the mechanical arms can be positioned to bring light anywhere you need it. They’re great on either side of the bed when you don’t have end tables – but, still want light for night reading. Or hang them next to an over-stuffed chair to create a cozy reading nook.

• Contemporary Task Lighting

Simple or straight lines often describe the design of contemporary wall sconces – like small rectangular box structures with light that shines through paper, glass or plastic panels. These units are perfect in a bathroom when flanking a vanity mirror or anywhere else you want a soft, diffused lighting source.

• Sconces that Cast Unique Shadows

When it comes to drama, wall sconces can bring it. Creative sconces have light shining through holes in the shades to cast unique shadows on the wall and make a bold statement of visual interest.
