Scriptures that Shed Light on Life’s Lows and Let Downs

If you’ve been walking on the planet for awhile, chances are you have encountered some sort of challenge, disappointment, or devastation. Life rarely goes as we expect it. Instead, it is constantly shocking and surprising us, taking us into unfamiliar terrain; stretching us to the limits. Between the coveted, enjoyable moments of peaceful bliss and euphoria, life can come down on us hard and rock our world! The impact can make you wonder: What’s up? Why is this happening? What’s going to happen to me? Here are a few scriptures I remember when I am facing life’s uncertainties and challenging moments.

I don’t have to tell you how devastating a divorce can be. It’s not something that should be done without serious, deep thought. But, everyone makes mistakes, and marrying the wrong person is one of those mistakes some individuals, like myself, make in life. No matter how you try to make it right, you cannot. It is just not meant to be. Some will feel they have wasted a lot of good years. Not so. If you are faced with a divorce, or any situation that looks like it is taking a negative turn, these words from Paul in Romans 8:28 help me to make sense of the whole, big mess:

Furthermore, we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called in accordance with his purpose.

And, if you are about to go through a serious ordeal, or are smack, dab in the middle of one, (like a divorce, a court battle, or have people, including family members, who have turned against you, plus many more situations that I could name), here are two of my all-time favorite scriptures to meditate on night and day! They will give you comfort, strength, and understanding.

Fear thou not: for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10

When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. Isaiah 43:2

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again–Isaiah is the man! Yesha’yahu, as his name is known in Hebrew, was a Jewish prophet who lived around the 8th and 7th Century, B.C. He prophesied over 60 years and talked about the birth Jesus (Yeshua). Jeremiah is a cool prophet, too! Today, times are tough! People need jobs. Money. They are losing their homes and other possessions . Also, their confidence. When I think of giving up, or feel I have no purpose in this life, these words come to me from the Holy Spirit:

“I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

When you don’t know where your next dollar or opportunity to make that dollar is going to come from–check out what Isaiah has to say about that!

Adonai (God) will always guide you; he will satisfy your needs in the desert, he will renew the strength in your limbs; so that you will be like a watered garden, like a spring whose water never fails. Isaiah 58:11

According to King David, no problem is too great, no person too unimportant for God. Not me. Not you. For it is written: “Because he loves me, I will rescue him; because he knows my name, I will protect him. He will call on me, and I will answer him. I will be with him when he is in trouble. Psalm 91:15

Peace be with you. Shalom aleikhem!
