Scrabble Game Wall Hangings

I’ve made Scrabble tile key chains, Scrabble tray name plaques, and even Scrabble tile bracelets, but one of my favorite Scrabble game projects is one where you create your own wall hanging. It can be made in many different ways, depending on the pieces of the game that you actually have. Whether you’re missing a tray or two, or you’re limited in the number of tiles that you have, you’ll still be able to create a fabulous wall hanging that’s interesting and unusual.

One way to make a nice wall hanging is to start with a regular Scrabble board. Tape or glue a ruler or similar object to the backside, down the fold, to keep the board open. Use double-sided tape to stick the game board to the wall.

If you have trays, glue a couple of them to the board. Hot glue works great to attach the backs of the trays to areas of the board. You can glue them all in a row – down one side- or randomly glue them to the board. After that, decide how you want the wall hanging to look. Glue tiles to the trays to spell out children’s names, then glue a tiny picture of each child – in a frame – beside each tray. Or, do away with the pictures and just spell our your children’s names.

Instead of using the trays to make a wall hanging you can also use just the tiles. It’s fun to make a crossword-type arrangement spelling out words with a theme. If your theme is a beach theme, you can spell out words like “beach”, “swim”, “dolphins”, or other related words. For a baby’s room, make a puzzle with words like “cuddly”, “love”, “adorable”, “baby boy” or “baby girl”. Add a blank tile, here and there, to make the puzzle even more interesting. Just use hot glue to attach the chosen letters directly onto the board. When you’re finished with the tiles, you can add to the theme of the board by gluing on trinkets, tiny pictures cut from magazines, or other embellishments.

Often, when we’ve used our Scrabble games many times, we’ll end up with important letters that are missing. That’s why, if you aren’t able to make certain words because of missing letters, you can do a totally different arrangement. Buy a paint pen – available in zillions of colors – and use it to make your own tiles. Glue the existing-letter sides of the tiles to the board, and write your own letters on the blank sides. Another option is to use tiny stickers to make the letters you want.

The Scrabble game wall hangings are really adorable for a child’s room, a game room, or even to show off pictures of your grandkids in the family room. They’re all really cheap and easy to make and they add a fun element to any area of the house.
