Review: Arby’s Macaroni and Cheese

I decided to take off from work early yesterday so I could get to the gym before the rush. Since I was on that side of town and was starting to get hungry, I decided to run over to Arby’s.

While there, I ended up getting my usual chicken tenders meal. However, I was picking up my daughter from my parents’ house on my way home so I decided to get something for her and, so she didn’t feel left out when she got home from school, something for her older sister. My wife, who had been there a few days earlier, mentioned the restaurant now offered macaroni and cheese as part of their kids menu so I ended up picking up a couple containers.

I’ve had restaurant macaroni and cheese before and, to be honest with you, I have never been that impressed with it. Most restaurants’ versions of this product are kind of mushy and, as a result, my kids have never really liked it. Because of this, when I ordered the macaroni and cheese this time around, I honestly did have some doubts. But, as it turns out, I didn’t need to be concerned.

First of all, the macaroni and cheese looked like the macaroni and cheese we make at home. It wasn’t mushy and it wasn’t soupy (like some other restaurant versions we’ve ordered in the past). In fact, it actually looked pretty good and I had to resist eating it myself.

My kids confirmed this for me too. My youngest will eat just about anything so I wasn’t surprised when she liked the macaroni and cheese. But, my oldest is always kind of picky when it comes to food and the fact she devoured her macaroni and cheese pretty much proved it; especially since I had to re-warm her cup.

My only real complaint about this product is quantity. The cups they used were only about half full. This probably wouldn’t have been too big of a deal (after all, they are meant for kids). But, I believe I paid a little over $1 each for the macaroni and cheese and, when you consider you can buy a family-sized box for that price, putting in a little extra wouldn’t break the company.

Despite that, overall, I was happy with this purchase; mostly because it’s an option that you don’t see at most fast food restaurants and, since my kids loved it, it gives us an excuse to visit Arby’s more often.
