Pros for Buying Your Laptop Online

If you buy your laptop on the computer you will be able to use the latest microprocessors as the engine for the computer. You will also be able to add hardware and software options that you prefer to have on your computer. When the laptop is delivered to your home, all of the equipment and software will be installed and you will have all of the software diskettes needed to manage the computer long term.

Cons for Buying Your Laptop Online

If you buy your laptop online, you may not be able to find a version of your computer model available in a local store in order to try it out. The size of the equipment is only available by technical specifications. The feel of the key board, mousepad, and mouse may have features you do not like. Additionally, the software version may have kinks in it that are not fixed. Also, the driver’s that support newer editions may not be available for your printer or your modem. Shipping is also a consideration when you buy a laptop online because you will have to pay for shipping and with the poor economy, many laptops being shipped are going missing at the delivery service. Many times laptops purchased online will not be built until your order is processed, thereby adding a several week delay in the time you will receive your computer.

Pros for Buying Your Laptop in the Store

Many times when you purchase your laptop in a store, you can leave that day with all of the hardware and software ready to use. The stores often select the models that have been reviewed by technical experts as the best product to buy. While you are in the store, you can try out the computer and see how it operates-specifically check the scroll up and down feature on the mousepad, the way the screen operates in natural light such as a car, and how the boot up procedure works. Many times you can have the software you want installed or at least purchase it at the same time. Many times the stores will offer a warranted computer and aid you in returns.

Cons for Buying Your Laptop in the Store

Laptops are high turnover items, staying useful for only 3-4 years. Stores often purchase large quantities of a product such as laptops. Laptops that don’t sell well may stay in the inventory of stores and grow out of date compared to newer models. Check the websites for the brands of laptops you are interested in before you shop for a laptop, this will let you know how outdated the equipment maybe. Make sure that you don’t overpay for the laptop considering the age of the equipment. Laptops bought in a store may also not have the additional software or equipment that you would like to buy, these would have to be purchased separately and you will be responsible for their installation and or any costs associated with having someone else install it.
