Power Cords Can Revive Your Electronics from a Brief Power Outage

Your power goes out briefly on you during your favorite program and you find nothing works. Your television comes on, but nothing is there. Your cable service box does the same – nothing! Then you get worried when your computer will not respond. Ouch! That is going to hurt your pocketbook, or maybe not.

Although you thought about claiming all of these devices on your home owner’s insurance, you never got around to it, period. Now you are wishing you had. So what can you do? Is there any hope for these devices? After all, the power was out only a few seconds if a minute at that.

Hopefully you can recall how to manage your television. Most televisions are connected to cable boxes of some sort these days. Should yours be one of these, which more than likely it is, all you will need to do is reboot your television. Unplug it from the outlet instead removing the cord from the back of the television. Wait ten minutes and plug it back into the socket. That should solve your issues there.

What do you do if you do not have one of the fancier televisions like this? You would still need to unplug it from the wall. We never disposed of our rabbit ears for such emergencies. Hook up the old antenna and plug the television back in after the ten minute waiting period. The antenna is a way of making certain you have any contact with stations at all.

Whether it is AT&T U-Verse, Cox Cable, or any of the other cable television services you pay into, their box can be tricky at times. A brief outage should not be an issue with AT&T all so much since they do provide you with a battery backup device. Simply unplug the cable box and the so-called wireless unit for the time being. Once those minutes pass you can plug them back up. There will be a wait on the wireless device.

Other name brand companies may or may not provide a battery backup. It is wise to have all these electrical devices plugged into a good power strip backed up by a lifetime warranty. Most people these days have them, but do not fear if you do not. Again, unplug the devices, wait and plug them back up.

It is wise to wait before turning on the initial equipment so that you do not cause any damage to them. Some if not all of these types of devices require a little time to reset themselves back to the configuration you had earlier. You need to pay close attention to the lights that are normally on before turning the on the devices.

There you are sitting at a blank screen because your computer went down. You turned it on and yet…nothing. No response. Not even a “beep” to sound off that the computer is working at all. This is nearly everyone’s nightmare that owns a computer. Did the power supply blow out? Surely the motherboard is not fried.

The test comes after a good cool down, and the power cord is plugged into the outlet. Wait. A sound on the computer! A boot screen! Yeah! It works! Computers do need some time off for a while before reinstalling their power cord. They are finicky electrical units that are quirky at best.

Sit down and look over that homeowner’s policy to see if you can claim these electrical devices before you do lose them to a more serious power outage. Reviving from the power cord is the first step one should take in saving their electronic devices. Know the basic steps. Should you forget, read the user’s manual on them.
