Occupying the Constitution

Everybody talks about the Constitution, but nobody does anything about it! We’re here to change that. We’re here to offer and exchange ideas about what can be done to change the Constitution so that it really can be what it is often called,i.e. a living document. We need to retain the magnificent principles which lay behind its writing but also to amend it to make it have more meaning to a world that is vastly changed from our country’s inception.

The Founding Fathers wrote within the Constitution the power of ‘We,The People’ to change it. But it has been a very long time since any changes were made and it has been a very long time since our Government has been anything like one, as Lincoln suggested, “of the people, by the people and for the people.”

We have been led to believe and distracted into believing that ‘We,The People’ have lost the ability to change what Government is and does for us and to us. We have forgotten, for the most part, that in fact, the people are the Government of the United States of America. At least that was the idea.

Let’s begin a new dialogue based on these proposed Amendments to the Consitution:

I Any institution, enterprise or corporation incorporated under the laws of these United States or its individual States for the purpose of making a profit for its individual or various owners/stockholders shall not hereafter be considered as individual persons under the same laws nor entitled to the same privileges as individual persons, particularly in regards to their participation in elections, unless they are subject to the payment of taxes at the same rate as individual citizens.

II Voting for any local, state or national office and/or proposed law shall take place only on the first weekend – Friday, Saturday and Sunday – of each November or, for certain local entities, on such a weekend as best determined by and for local purposes. The results of said elections shall not be officially announced and/or decided unless every single vote cast in an election has been counted, including absentee and mail-in votes.

III That any company, enterprise or institution contracted with the United States Government for the purpose of the production of materiel related to the pursuit of the defense of the United States shall not be permitted to make a profit on the production and/or procurement of such materiel. Said materiel is defined as any item needed by the armed forces of the United States of America or its national security and intelligence branches in its pursuit of national defense and security.

IV That the institution known as the Senate of the United States shall be replaced with a body of members elected as they currently are but whose endeavors in the law-making process shall be limited to those of a consultative nature. The legislative process of the Government of the United States of America shall henceforth be vested in a unicameral system with the Legislative branch limited to the House of Representatives with the people henceforth represented according to their population.

V That the phrase “pursuit of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” be considered as part of this Constitution of the United States of America and construed additionally as the right of all persons resident within the borders of the United States to the obtaining of health care appropriate to the maintenance of that life and henceforth the absolute right and ability to pursue liberty and happiness.

I believe these proposed Amendments, offered here without further comment, might give our country a fighting chance and help the people reclaim their free heritage.
