Now on DVD: Die Hard 2: Die Harder

Synopsis: Two years after fighting terrorists in Los Angeles, John McClane (who now works for the LAPD) is at the airport in Washington DC waiting for his wife’s plane. Unfortunately for him, a group of soldiers working for a captured drug dealer seize control of the airport in an attempt to free their leader.

What I liked about this movie: Most sequels don’t live up to the original and, overall, I do think that was the case with this movie too. However, it is still one of the better action movies out there.

What I liked most about this movie is, unlike the first film, McClane (Bruce Willis) isn’t in control; the terrorists are and they always seem to be a step or two ahead of him or, at very least, manage to improvise whenever he tries to screw up their plans. Plus, they have a few surprises up their sleeves that aren’t revealed until toward the end.

Adding to the suspense is the fact his wife is in imminent danger because her plane is running out of fuel. Not only does he have to stop the bad guys, he has only a certain amount of time to do it.

What I didn’t like about this movie: The bad guy in the first film (played by Alan Rickman) was fantastic because he had so much depth. This time around, the bad guy (played by William Sadler) didn’t have that.

Another thing that kind of bugged me about this movie was how everyone at the airport was happy and joking at the end and seemed to forget that a plane with 200+ people died only a short time earlier on Christmas Eve. I know it’s just a movie but I still was uncomfortable with it.

Final Opinion: As I said before, it doesn’t quite live up to the original but it is still a very good action movie that is worth watching if you haven’t seen it before.

Average Netflix Grade: 3.7 stars out of a possible 5.

My Grade: 4 stars.
