Natural Black Hair Care Products for Kids: How About for Adults Too?

Have you spent a lot of time cruising the beauty supply store searching for black hair care products that might give you a little bit of moisture? Naturalistas, take a moment to broaden your scope to the products that are on the shelves for children.

Recently, I decided to try out Kids Organics Shea Butter Moisturizing Hair Lotion and Kids Organics Soft Hold Styling Pomade & Hair Dress. My decision to purchase these products was multi-faceted.

First, given the overwhelming 4c texture and thickness of my hair, I decided to purchase a good pomade. I hoped to find a product that not only added moisture, but a product I could use on my twists as well as a product that would provide some semblance of softness to my hair. Thus began my search. There are many companies out there that label their products as pomade. However, all pomades are not created equal and some deserve the more appropriate label of hair oil. As many of you naturalistas out there know, a shimmering, shiny fro, is not necessarily a good, healthy fro.

Next, I wanted to be able to decrease my use of twisting gel. I was quite relieved to find Africa’s Best Kids Organics Soft Hold Styling Pomade & Hairdress. This product works great on my twists and allows me step away from the twisting gel on occasion. This creamy, yellow formula is well received by kinky natural hair and for those of you twisting or coiling your hair, this product provides a nice hold without drying your hair out.

In my quest for a good pomade, I managed to stumble across Africa’s Best Kids Organics Shea Butter Detangling Moisturizing Hair Lotion. Naturalistas, this product works great on wet hair and seals in moisture. It detangles and makes otherwise kinky hair quite manageable. I tend to favor twists, so I definitely would recommend this product for use in your twisting regimen. While I think it might work well on a wash-n-go, I fear it would contribute to shrinkage if that’s something you’re looking to avoid.

Along with a host of other ingredients, this product contains olive oil and shea butter. Too much product can weigh your hair down and yes, believe it or not, you may find your twist-outs looking a little limp. A little goes a long way.

Michelle’s Naturalista Rating for both products: 3.5 stars out of 5 stars
