Lap #6
After coming in on the 15th position Stewart makes it to the 10 spot on lap 6. Kurk Busch is back into the garage with engine vibrations. Lap # 38 Tony Stewart on pit row needing a four tire change, track bar adjustment, and tape over big hole in the grill with the 2nd caution. Stewart stays calm even after losing his position due to car problems calling for pit stops. Problems with the track This Miami track does not have much grip which makes it hard on the tires. Sun and rain on this South Florida track is a big factor in the wear and tear of the track. It is difficult to get any grip on the bottom part of the track. Drivers need to use the entire track in order to pass not just one lane due to the way the track is worn. Lap # 95 Dale Earnhardt Junior is concerned about a vibration and Tony Stewart is back to the 7th place behind Carl Edwards. When Kurk Busch’s car blew up, Tony Stewart’s car suffered from grill damage due to the debris. Now Tony is all the way to the back of the pack. He is picking his way forward while other drivers let him pass. Tony says that he is not worried about Carl Edwards leading as long as he can get in the first position by the end of the race. Stewart uses the entire race track to make his passes. Carl Edwards is back in the lead on the 49th lap.
Lap # 108 Caution for rain
While track drying takes place, the drivers take a much needed break to regroup, take notes, and make needed changes. A few cars had oil leaks which made the track slippery and the sun made it hard to see when going into turn one. It looks like this break was a blessing in disguise for the drivers!
Car #48
During the rain break David Reutimann talks about Engine problem including loose throttle putting car #48 out of the race.
Time to start racing again
Track drying is complete and the covers are taken off the cars. Since Tony came back on the track his car is handling very well. Tony says that they can’t lose anything in this race because they can’t do any worse than 2nd in points. Tony Stewart is back in the lead again. So far Tony has passed 63 cars in this race.
Fifth caution due to debris
Tony gets four new tires. This race track is slicker now that the heat of the day is gone. After all that work to get up to the lead now Tony Stewart is going to find himself back in the 9th position when they restart due to the fact that it took his crew a little longer to change his tires. Stewart is back in the lead again all the way from 9th position.
Lap 154 and 7th caution
Trever Bayne and Cole Witt had a collision and are now out of the race. There is a lot of debris on the track. Two tires only for Tony who is having a problem on the right side of the car. A lug nut is stuck in the socket on Tony’s right rear tire. They did not want to change four tires because they did not want Tony lose any time getting back into place.
97 Laps to Go
Matt Kenseth is the leader now. Tony is in 4th place. Lap 94 Tony is in 2nd place now. Carl Edwards back in front. He has been the lap leader for most of this race. Carl Edwards led 90 laps so far. Tony Stewart has not complained about the car at all.
64 laps to go
Carl Edwards had to make a pit stop giving Tony the lead and putting him in fifth place.
Another caution with only 42 laps to go
Back into the race after the track has been dried. Tony is back into the lead.
Tony Stewart wins the race!!!!!
