My Health Resolutions for 2012

Of course it’s that time of year again. Let’s all make New Year’s resolutions. I like setting these goals each year, achieving them is even better. This upcoming year I have many goals and resolutions I am making.

My first one is a big one, and also a very common one, I want to quit smoking! I am 30 years old and already have breathing troubles. I have quit in the past cold turkey, but once I started going through my divorce I went back to it. Big mistake there, but I know I can quit again. I want to be able to walk up a flight of stairs and not be short of breath, or even go for a nice brisk walk without breathing heavy. Most important I want my 6 year old to not say, “Mommy no more smoking!” That breaks my heart.

My second goal is to lose weight. I am setting realistic goals for myself this year. I have mapped out a month to month chart on how much weight I want to lose, how much muscle I want to gain, and how I feel overall. My ultimate goal is to one day lose enough weight to be a runner. I am setting this goal because I want to physically feel better and emotionally. I hear that when you are overweight and you lose the weight your overall health improves, like allergies, or acid reflux which I currently suffer from both.

My third goal is to convert to herbal medicines. I currently take a thyroid medicine along with an anti-depressant medication. I would like to be able to maintain my thyroid level and one day not need to depend on that medication. I like the idea of not having to take these medicines for the rest of my life. I know some people think its silly to convert to herbal medicines, but I feel the more natural stuff we put into our bodies the better. Not allowing so many chemicals in.

My fourth goal is to eat healthier, both myself and my son. Not necessarily eat diet like stuff, but change some of the things we do eat right now. I want my son to grow up as healthy as possible. He is an active little boy and I want to make sure he grows up with the right nutrients that he needs.

My fifth and final health goal or resolution is to start yoga and meditation, I know a few people who practice yoga and meditation and it helps keep them centered and calm. I plan on taking up a few classes that are offered in my area. Good luck to you all that have set goals. You can do it!
